Private key to wif format

Before you import your private keys consider whether sweeping them might be better. Importing your private keys requires you to create a new electrum wallet just for your private keys.

Vellalar is sc or bc

Sweeping them means that all the funds in the private keys are sent to your existing deterministic Electrum wallet. This is a one-time on-chain operation. Unless you expect to receive money in the future to the addresses corresponding to your private keys it is better to sweep them. Sweeping private keys sends the funds to your deterministic wallet and backing that up is as easy as writing down the seed mnemonic. These instructions are for Electrum 3.

Please upgrade first if you are using an older version of electrum. You cannot import private keys into an existing HD wallet.

Importing private keys requires you to create a new wallet file that will only contain the imported private keys. Enter one private key per line. Click on the info button to see examples. If you need help with your Electrum problems see the support forum links here. What version of electrum are you using? The version is listed up top in the electrum window title bar.

After that you can import your uncompressed private key into electrum to get the correct address. Note that entering your private key on a website is risky so you should just send the money from your blockchain.

Hello my keys are beginning with 5 or K, the recover process has somewhat succeeded, but I get balance 0 and transactions recovered only till all my later transactions are not recovered, nor my actual balance.

However it is also possible that your coins are in a different address controlled by a different private key. Perhaps whatever wallet software you were using would have had multiple private keys and it moved the coins to a different address like a change address.

I will try to change server. Most likely your bitcoins are in a change address like I said before. What you need to do is extract the seed words and restore using that in Electrum.

Let me explain my question first. I bought a certificate from a CA and used the following format to generate the csr and the private key:. I change the cert file names as required but keep getting this error: " MalformedCertificate Invalid Private Key.

The interesting thing is, on the aws doc page, the sample private key that they show starts with "Begin RSA Private Key". It seems that all the commands in grey take any type of key file in green as "in" argument.

This is exactly what I needed.Sweeping your private keys means to send all the bitcoins that can be unlocked by those private keys to an address in your existing deterministic Electrum wallet. It is a one-time on-chain operation that will cost you transaction fees. The address displayed in the window above by default will be an address in your wallet. This is where all the funds will be sent.

These are standard formats for private keys. More about that here. Click on the info button to see examples. Click on sweep and electrum will look up what bitcoins have been sent to the corresponding address and display the send tab because in effect you are sending the coins to an address in your wallet.

You can customize the fees for this private key sweeping transaction using the send tab and then click on send to do the transaction. Does this mean I have to wait a bit for it to go through? That happens within 10 minutes to an hour so it should have happened by now. That cannot be right. It cost 15 USD or so to send one to a normal online broker….

Yes you sweep your keys. If the transaction size is large then there will be high fees. Generally speaking fees are very high these days. You are making a mistake in one of the steps when importing your private key. They moved around some of the UI elements in 3. Sweeping means the coins are sent to an address in your electrum wallet.

It is an on-chain operation that has transaction fees associated with it. The advantage of sweeping over importing is that the private keys that control the coins changes to the ones behind the destination address you specify in the sweep window which, by default, is an address in your electrum wallet.

This makes backups easier since you can easily back up an electrum wallet by just writing down its seed words. So I tried to upload the funds with my address and privatekey at Electrum. And now the most stupid action. I filled the same address as where I was sending from. I was sick of it! Its in my wallet now. I am just a moron lol. You probably need to specify the script type for each private key.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together.

I created this because I couldn't find an offline tool or library able to create addresses from Bitcoin private keys, and as a learning exercise in Bitcoin address formats and ECDSA. The option names are a little verbose but I wanted to make it clear exactly what each one is referring to, especially when it is possible to make a costly mistake.

I've tried to add as much sanity checking as possible, to remove the scope for errors and misinterpretation of data. This sometimes boreders on the pedantic and annoying. For example, if the file for --input-file contains more data than is expected, then it'll refuse to process it at all. The mini-private-key input-type requires --input to be a 30 character ASCII string in valid mini private key format and --input-format to be raw. If raw keys are input and an address output is required, then the key type prefix must be specified via --network.

Let's manually generate a Bitcoin address and private key for the purpose of an offline wallet cold storage. Since it is a raw key, the network type must be explicitally set to bitcoin in this case because it cannot be determined from the raw key :. Specifying --public-key-compression is mandatory because the WIF output is different depending on which public key compression type you choose, and there is no way to guess from a raw private key.

Note that the WIF private key is longer with public key compression on, because an extra byte flag is stored to indicate that the public key should be compressed the private key is exactly the same. This demonstrates why it is necessary to be careful when converting raw private keys to addresses; the same private key will almost definitely result in two seperate addresses, one for each intermediate form of the public key. Now you can receive Bitcoins using the address above, but you will need to import the private key into your wallet at a later time in order to spend them bitcoind importprivkeyfor the official clientor at least be able to sign transactions with that key not necessarily online.

This outputs an address you can send Bitcoins to, if you want to loose them forever because the private key is never output! Hash a text phrase with SHA, which is then used as the private key to generate an address from. Never use this example for an actual wallet, it will be stolen almost immediately! I did a test with another dictionary word and it took all of 4 seconds for someone to steal it!

Importing your private keys into Electrum

This shows the --output-type all option, which spews out lots of unnecessary garbage which I can't imagine would ever be useful, but it does so because it can. So There. You can read multiple lines of input from a text file and process individually with the --batch option.

This requires the --input-file option to be set.

You can confirm this by looking at sizes. PKCS 8 is smaller even with more headers added. If you care about performance, use PKCS 1.

My test shows 3 times faster. ZZCoder, could you please provide some details on how you generated the keys and tested the performance? To generate a PKCS 1 key the openssl genrsa command can be used. Using openssl req to generate both the private key and the crt will end up with a PKCS 8 key.

The genpkey manual states The use of the genpkey program is encouraged over the algorithm specific utilities because additional algorithm options and ENGINE provided algorithms can be used.

But some software mysql can use only PKCS 1 keys. Converting the other way can be done with openssl pkey -in key. Paul Tobias 1, 11 11 silver badges 12 12 bronze badges.
